Our Members. Our Challenge.

A unique challenge for us is every year is a rookie year for our students. Most of our students are drop-outs or they have just arrived from another country and they are too old to start in traditional high school. With an average length of enrollment of one year, we have little hope of students spending more than a season with us. But all our students are from groups under-represented in engineering. Our mentors feel our studnets especially need FIRST and the opportunities it offers.

Additional Info: Approximately 42% of students are English Language Learners or bilingual. At build sessions, you can hear students working together in other languages as they try to understand their roles in our team. They learn English as they learn how to build our robot. It is a delight to watch their wonder and embracement of these new experiences.
